The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence is a United States nonprofit organization that advocates for gun control and against gun violence. It was founded in 1974 as the National Council to Control Handguns (NCCH) and later renamed in honor of James Brady, who was shot and severely wounded during the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. The organization works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations, and public policies through grassroots mobilization, education, and advocacy.
