The League of Women Voters (LWV) is a nonpartisan political organization in the United States that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The LWV was founded in 1920 to help women take a larger role in public affairs after they won the right to vote. Today, the LWV has over 700 state and local Leagues across the country, with members in every state.
